Live Commentary

  1. - De Puniet finished fourth, ahead of Melandri and Edwards, as poor Jorge Lorenzo sits glumly as Rossi accepts the Spanish crowd's adoration, despite pipping home-favourite Pedrosa. Thanks for joining us!

  2. - And Rossi wins in Jerez! The Italian comfortably beats Pedrosa in the end, with Stoner behind the Spaniard.

  3. 27 As we go into the final lap, Rossi's gap is 3.4 ahead of Pedrosa, and the Italian looks imperious as he comes through to take the chequered flag.

  4. 26 Rossi still leads, with Melandri in fifth as the scrap continues behind the Italian and Pedrosa.

  5. 25 With two laps to go, Lorenzo receives a standing ovation as he departs despondently into the pits.

  6. 24 Lorenzo tips over in his Yamaha as he looks to put pressure on Stoner, and to the dismay of his team, has to push his bike back on to the track!

  7. 23 The home crowd, despite willing Pedrosa to challenge Rossi, are cheering the Italian as he extends his lead in the closing laps.

  8. 22 Stoner matches Lorenzo's lap time to consolidate third spot, with a new gap of 1.123, as Rossi continues to press in his Yamaha ahead of Pedrosa.

  9. 21 Melandri moves into sixth past Edwards, while Rossi extends his lead over Pedrosa, and Lorenzo puts pressure on Stoner in third.

  10. 20 The gap between the new leader Rossi and Pedrosa is 0.679, with Stoner and Lorenzo still in third and fourth respectively.

  11. 19 Valentino Rossi beats Pedrosa into turn 9, passing the Spaniard on the inside to snatch the lead!

  12. 18 4.186 is the gap between Rossi and Stoner, with the key battle between the front two riders, as the home crowd will their man to pull away from the Italian once more.

  13. 17 Rossi is now right on the back of Pedrosa, and we are set for an intriguing final ten laps in Jerez. The braking zone has been cited as a potential weakness of the Spaniard in front: can he hold his lead?

  14. 16 Colin Edwards is currently in sixth, as Lorenzo remains in touch of Stoner in third. The new gap is 0.450 up front, from Pedrosa to Rossi.

  15. 15 Rossi claws his way back to Pedrosa, and the battle of the race sees the pair pitting their wits up front, with the lead now 0.831.

  16. 14 There is a gap of 2.241 from Rossi to Stoner, as Mika Kallio is in the pits after encountering some problems in his Ducati.

  17. 13 The Spanish fans urge Jorge Lorenzo to stay with the three riders in front of him, as Rossi pulls away from Stoner in third.

  18. 12 1.1 is the gap, as Pedrosa leads from Rossi and Stoner. Colin Edwards is absolutely flying in his Yamaha, with the American upping the intensity as he puts pressure on De Puniet.

  19. 11 The Yamaha team cannot understand what is wrong with Jorge Lorenzo's bike as he is well off the pace still, while Pedrosa and Rossi extend the gap between them and the rest of the field.

  20. 10 1.184 is the new gap for Pedrosa, from Rossi in his Yamaha. James Toseland is battling hard for 12th spot.

  21. 9 Capirossi is pushing hard, while Dovizioso runs off the track and drops down to 16th place. Pedrosa sets a new lead of 1.229.

  22. 8 Rossi is through once more into second place, following an enthralling battle into the tight fifth corner.

  23. 7 Valentino Rossi is absolutely flying as he moves past Casey Stoner into second, but then the Australian pips him again into the penultimate corner - what a battle!

  24. 6 Rossi, up into third place behind Stoner, stalk Pedrosa, but the Spaniard does not look fazed as he continues to hold his pace.

  25. 5 Capirossi moves up to fifth, as Pedrosa looks to stretch his lead with another very slick lap. Valentino Rossi sets a fastest lap as he ups the pace.

  26. 4 Dani Pedrosa eases the gap, leading by 0.3 of a second from Casey Stoner, with fellow Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo dropping off slightly.

  27. 3 Pedrosa improves on his fastest lap with a storming final two turns, as De Puniet and Dovizioso almost collide through a tricky corner.

  28. 2 Jorge Lorenzo, renowned for his consistency, slips into third, with Stoner up into second and Pedrosa leading for Spain.

  29. 1 Pedrosa makes a good start as Rossi is in fourth spot; a frantic beginning to the race in Jerez.

  30. - And we are go go go!!

  31. - The riders set off on their warm-up lap...

  32. - We have had two fabulous races so far today: let's make it a trio with the main event, eh lads?

  33. - Another home rider Dani Pedrosa also on the front row with Casey Stoner starting from third. World champion Valentino Rossi is on the second row alongside Randy De Puniet and Loris Capirossi.

  34. - Jorge Lorenzo starts from pole for Fiat Yamaha at this season's Spanish MotoGP!!
