Live Commentary

  1. 0' There it is and Stoner is in pole for tomorrow's Valencia GP, with Pedrosa and Loreno second and third, with world champions Rossi in fourth. Thanks for joining us.

  2. 3' Pedrosa up into second with 1:32.519!

  3. 5' Hayden is over the line and up into fifth position!

  4. 6' Stoner's out on track and is going lower again. Amazing lean angle from the Australia as he sets another pole position with a 1:32.256. Not a massive improvement but he's still in pole, which is what counts.

  5. 9' Rossi's up into third as he goes sub 1:33 with a 1:32.922.

  6. 12' But Lorenzo's lead short-lived as Stoner again lowers the mark to 1:32.258!

  7. 15' Rossi is out on track again as is Lorenzo on softer compounds and the Spaniard takes pole on his Yamaha with a 1:32.576.

  8. 19' Great lap from Edwards and the American is up into fifth with a 1:33.521 on his Yamaha.

  9. 20' Stoner is in again and has lowered his mark to 1:32.944. Not as quick as last year's pole but that was when the teams were operating under different tyre regulations.

  10. 24' Toseland comes in and unable to improve on his 13th place. 1:34.457 fastest for the UK rider.

  11. 25' Fantastic lap from Spies as he moves into seventh spot - great stuff from the American with a 1:33.757, only 0.10s behind Rossi - and Spies has hardly ridden the Yamaha before. Amazing!

  12. 28' Rossi back in sixth now as Hayden moves up to fifth. The Italian is 0.627s behind Stoner's mark, which is not impossible for him to make up.

  13. 30' Pedrosa has moved into second place with a 1:33.142, pushing fellow-Spaniard Lorenzo back into third and Frenchman de Punite fourth.

  14. 33' And Stoner has lowered his time to 1:33.037 - just a little quicker.

  15. 34' Stopner back out again and he's looking quick. He's quicker at the first marker.

  16. 36' Toseland, currently running at 11th, is out for another lap, as is second placed Lorenzo.

  17. 42' Coming up to 20 minutes into the one-hour session and Stoner again at the top of the time sheets (1:33.138), with Lorenzo second and de Puniet third making it Ducati, Yamaha and Honda. A bit of trivia: Spaniard Pedrosa has never won in Valencia - on any size bike!

  18. 55' Stoner, who was pole last year, is out for his first lap.

  19. 58' It's a glorious afternoon in the Spanish city and perfect for the concusion of the 2009 season.

  20. 59' And qualifying for the final MotoGP of the season gets underway. Stoner is on a hat-trick of victories - can he round the season off in style.

  21. - Rossi may already have this season's title in the bag but he will want to finish on a high, and that will require a good position on the grid.

  22. - World champion Valentino Rossi, who secured his second successive MotoGP title in Malaysia last month - and seventh overall - was fourth fastest on his Yamaha, with American Nicky Hayden fifth.

  23. - Australia's Casey Stoner has been the man to beat in both free practice sessions and set the pace this morning ahead of Spanish dup Daniel Pedros (Honda HRC) and Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory).

  24. - Good afternoon and welcome to Eurosport's live online coverage for the Valencia GP on the final weekend of the 2009 MotoGP season.

  1. Virgin feed died also. VR isn't going to race - he's just going to go thru the motions and let the others fight it out for the secondary positions. C'mon Marco Melandri - looking for a strong finish to consolidate the 7th position in the world championship. He always qualifies way down and then storms through the field - just stay on the bike for this last race!!

  3. I guess the "Eurosport Player" is not affected, can anyone confirm this?.

I only subscribe to Sky for Eurosport (MotoGP, SBK, British Superbikes), it looks like the Eurosport online player @ £35.00 as opposed to over £200 a year for Sky is the better option. I don't know about anyone else but I am being plagued with the "Please insert your new viewing card" message every 30 seconds, I am paying over £200 for that message,... nice !

Try getting through to Sky to get it sorted, not a chance, its the last straw, cancellation on Monday.
