Live Commentary

  1. 27 The locals are on their feet to cheer winner Barbera, while Aoyama cruises through for a seventh place finish to secure the title.

  2. 26 Barbera is cruising towards the victroy in the final ever 250cc race.

  3. 25 Barbera leads Bautista at a confortable distance, but the battle for second is on as de Rosa is hunting Bautista.

  4. 24 Julses Cluzel is out of the race. It's a sad end for the independent racer.

  5. 23 Aoyama is up in to eighth place and it's a run through to glory for the Japanese.

  6. 22 Barbera is well clear at the head of the race now and looks on course for victory.

  7. 21 Aoyama glides through the corner where Simoncelli slid off and he now knows the race is his. Will he now turn on the burners and finish in style?

  8. 20 ALL OVER! It's all over as far as the title is concerned as Simoncelli slides out of the race when leading. He had a bobble a little earlier and it appears he had tyre problems. Aoyama is the champion!

  9. 19 Simoncelli is pushing very hard at the head of the race, clearly away that Barbera is in his slipstream.

  10. 18 Di Meglio is off and out of the race from ith position, wich moves Aoyama up to ninth.

  11. 17 Barbera is still giving chase to Simoncelli and he seems determined to end the season on a high.

  12. 16 Aoyama is losing ground on the man in front of him and it is clear he has been told to keep it under the limit.

  13. 15 Simoncelli leads from Barbera and Bautista and it's a comfortable gap. It must be a strange feeling, knowing you are winning the race but will lose the championship.

  14. 14 Simoncelli is ahead of the pack and looking very strong. His team are updating him on Aoyama's position but there's nothing he can do.

  15. 13 Aoyama has clear air ahead of him up to the man on ninth so he looks to be adopting a conservative strategy. Sensible stuff.

  16. 12 Almost disaster for Simoncelli at turn one as his bike gets badly out of shape and for a second he loses the back wheel but keeps it up. He has no option but to push on but that was scary.

  17. 11 Simoncelli looks comfortable at the head of the race but Aoyama now seems to have regained his composure and provided he keeps it on the road he should be okay. Nothing quite like doing things the hard way.

  18. 10 Simoncelli is in front and Aoyama is down in 10th. As it stands though that will be enough for Aoyama to win the championship by a point. He just needs to keep the bike upright.

  19. 9 AMAZING SCENES! Aoyama runs wide into turn one and goes into the gravel at over 100mph. He manages to keep the bike upright but has lost a ton of places.

  20. 8 Simoncelli passes Barbera and now has only clear air ahead of him. What will Aoyama do?

  21. 7 Simoncelli reels in Barbera very quickly and he looks like he will go past at any stage. Hector Faubel slides off into the gravel and his race is over.

  22. 6 Aoyama is passed by Simoncelli for second and Simoncelli is now looking to close in on Barbera. If Aoyama has any sense he will just sit on the wheel.

  23. 5 PHEW! Aoyama is getting himself involved in a battle with Simoncelli who trade places in second and third. They almost touch at one stage. Barbera is taking advantage by moving ahead.

  24. 4 Simoncelli needs to make ground but Cluzel is fighting for third place and keeps the title challenger at at. They almost touch going into the corner.

  25. 3 Aoyama does not need to take any risks with the title in his grasp, but he's putting the pressure on Barbera at the head of the race.

  26. 2 Barbera leads from Aoyama and Cluzel. Simoncelli has got himself up to fourth following his awful start.

  27. 1 We are away and Simoncelli has had a poor start. Simoncelli is down to sixth, Aoyama holds third. The Japanese has one hand on the trophy as things stand.

  28. - The riders roll out for their warm-up lap and we will soon be underway.

  29. - Simoncelli is now on pole but importantly it means Aoyama is up on to the front row.

  30. - Drama before the start of the race, as Debon's bike appeared to lock up in the warm-up and went into the gravel at pace. He is rumoured to have broken some ribs and will not race.

  31. - Simonelli is in second place, while Aoyama is on the second row. Will that prove crucial?

  32. - This has the makings of a great race but there are others involved and Alex Debon took pole in qualfying.

  33. - Welcome to live text commentary of the 250cc Valencia Gp. This could be a cracker as it's all to play for in the title race between Hiroshi Aoyama and Marco Simoncelli.
