Arsenal 3-0 Dinamo Zagreb: Gunners Stroll to Victory Keeping Champions League Hopes Alive

Arsenal kept their hopes of qualifying for the next round of the Champions League alive with a 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb on a quiet Tuesday night at the Emirates.

First-half goals from Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez saw the Gunners in full command of the game at half-time, leading at the break for the first time in the competition this season, before a final goal from Sanchez put the result beyond any doubt midway through the second half.

Bayern Munich's comfortable 4-0 win over Olympiakos in Group F's other game means that Arsenal's qualification now comes down to their final match in Greece in a fortnight's time, the Gunners needing to win by two goals to progress.

Arsene Wenger made two changes from the side which lost against West Brom on the weekend, bringing in Mathieu Flamini for the injured Francis Coquelin and switching Kieran Gibbs out for Costa Rican forward Joel Campbell.

The Gunners began the match in a similar vein to the weekend's defeat, controlling possession and attacking dangerously without ever finding the right ball or finish to take advantage of their domination.

Almost half an hour of frustration passed before their most prolific creator turned scorer, Ozil meeting Sanchez's cross with a diving header after the Chilean star had raced forward on a lightning-fast counter-attack. A naive error allowed Nacho Monreal to win the ball inside the Zagreb box, setting up Sanchez for an easy tap-in to effectively wrap the tie up with more than half of the game still remaining.

Having scored those two goals within five minutes, Bad Arsenal returned with a force as the first half ended and the second began for an extended period, failing once again to capitalise on excellent attacks and chances.

Sanchez's second goal halfway through the second period put the icing on the Arsenal performance thanks to good work from Campbell, who picked out a brilliant pass to put his teammate in.

The Gunners' performance was short of vintage against an opponent who never really troubled them, despite the result, and Wenger will know that his side will have to be more clinical in a fortnight's time if they're to continue their long-standing record of consecutive qualifications for the last 16 of the competition.
