Ravenshead's Adcock suffered the twin disappointment of losing in the first round of the Yonex All-England Open Badminton Championships in both his mixed and men's doubles matches.
First he and Gabby White were beaten by Chinese top seeds Chen Xu and Jin Ma (21-14, 21-18), before the London 2012 Olympians' men's doubles hopes with Ellis were ended by Malaysian second seeds Kien Keat Koo and Boon Heong Tan (21-19, 24-22).
On both occasions Adcock was the victim of a tough draw, but he doesn't believe it is important to boost his world ranking just yet, even if that would mean avoiding the better players until the later stages of the sport's major tournaments.
"I think in terms of ranking as long as we look after our performance the ranking will look after itself," said the 23-year-old.
"It is not Olympic qualification year so in terms of ranking it is not really that important at the minute, it is more about developing as a pair so we can get ourselves in position and with every tool in the box so that we can come out in that Olympic year and come out flying.
"As long as we get the performances out there that we know we can - and finish them off - the ranking will take care of itself."
