Barnsley's move to sign Manchester City midfielder Gai Assulin on loan has been put on hold.
Israel international Assulin, 20, was expected to stay at Oakwell until January, but the deal has been scuppered for now due to injury.
Tykes manager Keith Hill told the club's official website: "On advice from the medical staff at Man City, it's just a deal that we can't do. Common sense has prevailed. It's something we wanted to do, but we're not going to force through a signing when the player's not 100% fit."
Assulin, the youngster player to represent Israel following his debut as a 16-year-old, has yet to make a first-team appearance for Manchester City since arriving in December 2010 following his release from Barcelona.
