Biathlon - Peiffer wins Oberhof sprint

Home favourite Arnd Peiffer delighted the Oberhof crowd with a stunning victory in the IBU Biathlon men’s 10km sprint.

The German 24-year-old produced a near faultless display on the shooting range to claim his first World Cup victory of the season in a time of 25:57.5 minutes.

Frenchman Simon Fourcade was perfect with the rifle but couldn’t match Peiffer’s pace on the skis and had to settle for second, 1.1seconds behind the German.

Third was Russia’s Evgeny Ustyugov while Norway’s Emil Hegle Svendsen missed out on the chance to press his claim for the overall title as he could only manage sixth.

Defending champion and currently top ranked Tarjei Boe was absent from the men’s sprint but remains top of the overall pile on 308 points while Martin Fourcade stays second despite also failing to make the start-line in Germany.
