Sydney, Nov 14 (ANI): Australian Test legend Allan Border has urged Australia to give batsman David Warner the freedom to fearlessly attack England's bowlers in his natural style during the winter Ashes, starting at the Gabba from November 21.
Although Warner had poor Test scores of 12, 6, 3, 71, 41, 5, 8, 0 and 2 in his recent appearances, he has been on fire this domestic season and belted more runs playing in the Sheffield Shield season.
According to News.com.au, the former captain believes that Warner's mind has become muddled about how he should play in Test cricket, saying that Australia should use his 'gung-ho' natural talent of striking the ball fearlessly instead of constraining him like a caged lion.
Stating that he fears Warner is torn between really going after the bowlers and playing as a traditional opening batsman as he begins to play more Test cricket, Border further said that the traditional style will not suit the player, adding that constraining him will end up bringing an adverse result for the team.
According to Border, Warner should use his attacking weapons to go after England whenever possible instead of worrying about being overly responsible, adding that if properly used, then Warner can be a real X-factor for Australia at the Ashes. (ANI)
