Jim, father of European super featherweight champion Spencer, was born in 1950 and first introduced to boxing by his father Charlie. They both joined Finchley Club in the 60s.
After a near-fatal car accident halted his professional career, Jim went on the become head trainer at Finchley ABC where he was responsible for the development of many talented young amateur boxers. He trained his son Spencer, and his brother, Danny Oliver - a two time NABC Champ.
Jim was active in the London Ex-Boxers Association, which he has attended for many years, along with father Charlie and brother John.
Jim had a two year battle with leukemia, and died on May 26 this year, days after returning from a trip to Las Vegas accompanying young boxers from North West Durham on a trip of a lifetime.
