Murray (32-2), from Levenshulme, shook off almost two years of inactivity and will now look for some meaningful fights in the lightweight division, one of the strongest domestic weight classes. Murray fancies a fight with Scouser 'Dirty' Derry Mathews. He said:
“I’ll get sharper, I’ll be straight back in the gym and get back out again as soon as possible.
“I’m glad to be back, I want fights with all the top kids at lightweight, I’m a very dangerous man. This is the hungriest I’ve been since I turned pro 10 years ago."
Wythenshawe light middle Jimmy Kelly stepped up ion class and moved to 9-0 with a narrow 78-76 points win over a Northolt southpaw Ryan Toms (12-6). Toms was disappointed with the decision, which could have gone either way. 2013 has been a mixed bag, with another narrow loss to Scot John Thain in April at Wembley. Kelly look to challenge for belts in 2014.
Liverpool prospect Robbie Davies Jr (3-0) was taken the six round distance by Brighton's Kevin McCauley (11-61-4), who earned a share of a round (60-55). Davies Jr takes on unbeaten Gloucester southpaw Danny Carter (4-0) next at the Liverpool Olympia on December 14.
Oldham middleweight Mark Heffron (8-0) improved on his impressive stoppage ratio when a body shot chopped down Hungarian Achilles Szabo (11-5) inside 30 seconds.
Chorley southpaw Jack Catterall (6-0) ramined unbeaten, but had a good test against game Frenchman Renald Garrido (10-5), who had his own successes and took Heffron the distance (59-56). Gorton featherweight Ryan Doyle (8-0) knocked down Bulgarian Valentin Marinov (5-7-1) four times on the way to a third round stoppage win.
