Maxwell (pictured, right) made his bow for Britain against Germany last month, losing the first bout of the evening at Earls Court on points to David Oliver Joyce before the Lionhearts recovered to win 4-1.
Going into his second appearance in Kiev, Maxwell thought he would be fighting Dmytro Rudenko in the lightweight contest however he fell ill on the day of the weigh-in.
Instead he will go up against Lomachenko, who won his second consecutive Olympic gold medal at London 2012 adding the lightweight title to the featherweight crown he claimed at Beijing 2008.
Lomachenko is also the featherweight world champion from 2009 and lightweight world champion from 2011 while Maxwell didn't even compete at London 2012.
Britain head into their first World Series of Boxing clash with Ukraine in Kiev second in the Group B standings behind unbeaten Kazakhstan having won three of their four matches.
