Boxing - Rossel wins again in Peru

Alberto Rossel put himself in line for a world title shot against Roman Gonzalez or Kazuto Ioka with a unanimous decision win over Walter Tello in Callao, Peru.

The WBA interim junior-fly champion notched up his sixth straight win – all of them coming in Peru – with scores of 120-111, 118-114 and 118-113 over the Panamanian challenger.

Peru’s first ever world boxing champion of any billing weathered a low blow late in the fight before almost finishing Tello in the championship rounds, but regardless he moves up to a 30-9 record (13 knockouts).

He is now expected to try and upgrade from interim champion status to a full-fledged titlist, though a ‘unification’ bout against a Gonzalez or Ioka would likely require him to fight outside of South America for the first time in three years.
