The win extended the Royals’ impressive home record at the Sawai Mansingh stadium to 12 matches as they claimed an exciting victory over the confident Otago.
Jimmy Neesham top-scored for the visitors with a quickfire 32 off 25 balls as the Royals were set 140 for victory. Their response started well with Ajinkya Rahane notching 52 off 48 balls but, following his dismissal, the middle order went to pieces.
Losing three wickets for five runs, the momentum looked to change in the favour of the visitors until Brad Hodge took to the crease to stall Otago’s recovery.
The Australian came in and, despite a number of wickets falling around him, steadied the ship and guided his side to victory with five balls remaining.
