The defending champions, who enjoyed a 51-run win over South Africa in a warm-up match on Monday, have been drawn in Group A alongside host nation India, West Indies and Sri Lanka, with the top three sides from the pool qualifying for the Super Sixes phase of the tournament.
Group B contains Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa.
England, three-times winners of the tournament, open their defence against Sri Lanka on Friday before facing India on Sunday and West Indies the following Wednesday.
Charlotte Edwards's England side contains eight of the players who won the last tournament in Australia four years ago, and with star batsman Sarah Taylor having been recently voted World T20 player of the year the squad is in fine form going into the event.
Edwards, who herself needs just 61 during the tournament to break the all-time run record in women's one-day internationals, can also count on the ICC's top-ranked one-day bowler, Katherine Brunt.
India will also fancy their chances of progressing, being captained by current top-ranked one-day batter Mithali Raj, while West Indies skipper will also be confident that she can guide her team through the opening phase having recently been named one-day player of the year.
Australia, winners of the event five times, also look in sparkling form going into the tournament having thrashed West Indies by 135 runs in their first warm-up match on Monday.
