After removing centurion Asad Shafiq with his first ball of the day, Philander (five for 59) continued the stunning start to a Test career that is still only 15 matches old.
The right-armer sparked a collapse of three for nine this morning, to reach his third five-wicket haul in four Tests at Newlands, before the South Africans were briefly made to toil again. Tanvir Ahmed (44) and Saeed Ajmal (21no) put on 64 for the ninth wicket to steer Pakistan beyond 300 and a competitive total after they had been 33 for four.
