Woodbridge, who finished 25th in Beijing, scored a total of 5716 points across the fencing, swimming, riding and combined event while fellow Brit Sam Weale took 13th place with 5664.
And 26-year-old Woodbridge revealed he does not know if he will tackle the next Olympics after expressing his disappointment with his London 2012 campaign.
"I would only go if I can improve sufficiently and have a good chance of winning a medal. I think I can but we will have to wait and see," said the former World Youth Championship gold medallist.
"I am disappointed. I thought I could be in for a medal, but I just couldn't pull it all together on the day."
Czech Republic's David Svoboda stormed to gold after a superb performance in the combined event while Chinese rival Cao Zhongrong had to settle for silver.
And 30-year-old Weale is hoping that the increased exposure for the sport will help attract a new generation of youngsters.
He said: "What a fantastic crowd - I wish every event had a crowd like this. Hopefully, the sport will have gained many more fans today.
"It's a great sport that many people don't know a great deal about."
