Duo dig in as draw looms

Kumar Sangakkara and Angelo Mathews steadied the Sri Lanka ship as the second Test against Pakistan in Colombo looked to be petering out to a draw on the final day.

Despite Sangakkara and Tillakaratne Dilshan both registering centuries on Tuesday, Pakistan took four quick wickets to raise hopes of making the hosts, still 273 runs adrift overnight, follow on.

But Sangakkara and Mathews were never troubled on Wednesday morning and put on an unbroken 89, with the former just 13 runs shy of a double century, to steer Sri Lanka to 367 for five - a deficit of 184.

Veteran left-hander Sangakkara has struck 15 fours and a six in his unbeaten 187 so far, with Mathews (46 not out) proving handy support on the final morning as Pakistan's bowlers toiled.
