Chris Woakes believes the success of the England team means players on the county circuit are "even more determined" to break into the international set-up.
Warwickshire paceman Woakes has been called up for Wednesday's NatWest Series one-day international with Australia at Edgbaston as a replacement for the injured Jade Dernbach.
He feels the outstanding form being shown in all formats of the game by England is acting as an inspiration to players like himself who are desperate to succeed at top level. Woakes said: "Everyone on the county circuit realises how strong this England team is. I don't think it is a shock they are pushing for number one status in ODI cricket as well as Test cricket."
He added: "It's not easy to break into and there are a lot of guys in county cricket playing very well and not even getting a sniff.
"I think everyone knows how good the competition is for places.
"But I'd be surprised if county cricketers are not even more determined to get into the team and be part of this set-up fighting for number one."
England lead the five match series 2-0 but Woakes anticipates an Australian backlash in the day-nighter in Birmingham.
"Australia are a fantastic team and to be 2-0 down, you wouldn't expect them to chuck in the towel," he said.
"I'm sure they will be fighting back. We will certainly be expecting that and hopefully we can put in just as strong a performance as we have done so far and win the series."
