While the US, hosts Canada and Mexico all fielded two teams each for the final qualifying event in the North and Centre American region, it was the only European team in the field that clinched victory.
Ireland triumphed to win four points after Robert Splaine’s greens - Cameron Hanley, Conor Swail, Darragh Kerrins and Richie Maloney - dominated through six clear rounds out of eight.
The US team '2' grabbed second place after MacLain Ward and Katie Dinan’s double clear rounds, yet that was not the team the Americans had nominated to win points.
Instead, the team containing Reed Kessler, Kent Farrington, Charlie Jayne and Christine McCrea one, had been put forward as the US's point-scoring quartet, but they could only manage to finish in fourth place.
Canada's first team pipped them to third, with Ian Millar, Eric Lamaze, Jill Henselwood and Tiffany Foster. Both Mexican teams occupied the final places.
Despite the Irish victory, and as expected before competition began with the first round in Wellington in March, the US and Canada secured their qualification for the finals which will be held in Barcelona from September 26 to 29.
