The 26-year-old finished behind the untouchable Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival.
Atop Eremo del Castegno, Truppa proved her talent by finishing 15th at the London Olympics this summer, off the back of a third place finish for the pair at the World Cup final in s’Hertogenbosch.
The run of good results has seen them rise to seventh in the world rankings.
Trained by her father Enzon, previously a top level rider himself, Truppa started riding at the age of four and was 12 when she entered her first competition. They still train together at the Monferrato equestrian centre in the north-west of Italy where they teach dressage and pass on their talent to future champions.
In Lyon, with a score of 83.35 per cent, she took the provisional lead of the Reem Acra FEI World Cup dressage standings.
As a title holder, Cornelissen has already automatically qualified for the final. Her points go to her runner’s account.
But if recent form and Eremo del Castegno's spirit is anything to go by, Cornelissen may just have to watch out for Truppa.
