Football - Bentley happy with Shrimps response

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley was pleased with his side's performance despite conceding a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw against promotion-chasing Northampton.

In-form Shrimps striker Jack Redshaw bagged his 14th goal of the season before the hour mark and appeared to be sending Bentley's side to a third win in four at home, but Kelvin Langmead's 89th-minute leveller denied them all three points.

However, Bentley admitted that a draw was a fair reflection of the game and that his players had done what was asked of them following the heavy defeat to Barnet at the weekend.

"If I'm being honest a draw was probably fair," he said. "It was a game that had a bit of everything with plenty of chances at both ends, a few tackles flying in and a lot of goalmouth action.

"I asked the lads for a response after Saturday's defeat at Barnet and I certainly got that.

"We knew we would be in for a tough test but the lads battled all the way through and stood tall.

"We had a bit of luck but we also created a lot of good chances ourselves before Jack scored another great individual goal.

"It's a shame we couldn't hang on for the win but I can't be critical of the players at all."
