Former Rovers youth-team captain Edwards penned his first professional contract in May last year, committing himself to the Ewood Park outfit for the next two seasons.
The 19-year-old joined Rochdale on a six-month loan before the start of this season, going on to make 29 appearances for Fleetwood's npower League Two counterparts.
