Gobern, sidelined since undergoing ankle surgery in the summer, has been back in training for several weeks and may be in contention for his first appearance of the season, while striker James Vaughan is expected to recover from concussion in time.
Defender Joel Lynch, who has missed the last six games due to a hamstring injury, is also expected back in the squad, as is midfielder Chris Atkinson (thigh).
But the good news stops there for caretaker managers Mark Lillis and Steve Eyre.
Winger Danny Ward (broken metatarsal), midfielder Keith Southern (Achilles) and striker Jermaine Beckford (hamstring) are all definitely out and forward Lee Novak (toe), midfielder Oliver Norwood (bruised foot) and defender Peter Clarke (concussion) are doubtful.
