They are unbeaten in 12 games since Howe moved back to the south coast and head into Saturday's home clash with Colchester sitting ninth in the table, four points adrift of a play-off position.
Bournemouth also have an FA Cup third-round trip to Premier League strugglers Wigan to look forward to on January 5.
