Rovers boss Dean Saunders indicated last week that the club were close to agreeing a deal to keep the 29-year-old Canada international at the Keepmoat Stadium and he confirmed a deal had been done after the 2-1 win at Oldham on Boxing Day.
Hume, who has a year remaining on his contract at Preston, joined Doncaster at the end of August.
He has made 20 appearances since his arrival in south Yorkshire, scoring four goals.
