Caley Thistle scored 64 league goals last season but missed out on a European place after being pipped to third spot by St Johnstone when a depleted team lost to Ross County on the final day.
Butcher has lost key midfielders Owain Tudur Jones and Andrew Shinnie but his first team has remained largely intact.
And the Caley Thistle boss has supplemented his squad with 12 new signings ahead of their opening game against St Mirren at home on Saturday.
He said: "What I like about this squad now is that on the bench in particular we have got players who can come on and make a difference, whereas before we didn't quite have that, with due respect to the lads what were here before.
"Now we have got athleticism and pace and players who are hungry to do well and impress.
"We may have to change the team round and I'm looking for players to come on and make a difference."
Butcher, whose side have had a free-scoring pre-season in Scotland before winning 1-0 at Charlton last weekend, added: "We will have a bit of a different style, we have lost Owain and Andy Shinnie.
"But we have adapted well, we have a good little system plus one or two others who can come in.
"From what we have done in pre-season, if we carry forward that spirit, passing and understanding, I think we will do well."
