Maguire has had a difficult season at Hillsborough but registered his first goal in just his ninth appearance with a last-gasp winner at Millwall on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old has yet to start in the npower Championship, but Jones insists he is in his thoughts for Saturday's derby with Leeds.
"He was never out of the reckoning, I can only pick 11 people," he said. "Chris has worked his socks off to get where he is and his reward for doing that was his goal the other night.
"There is no better feeling for a player than getting a winning goal with 30 seconds to go.
"We don't just discard people, just because they're not playing doesn't mean we have had a fall-out or we've dropped them. He has always been in the frame to play and he continues to be.
"Everybody at the football club, we expect a lot from them. It is up to them and Chris showed the other night, when your opportunity comes you have to grab it."
