Football - Templeton: That was my best double

David Templeton hailed his double against Clyde as the best of his career after stealing the show at Broadwood.

The winger contributed two superb goals as Rangers claimed a convincing 4-1 win to maintain their 22-point advantage at the summit of the Irn-Bru Third Division.

Templeton now has four doubles since joining the Light Blues from Hearts in August including two goals on his debut but he believes his latest efforts top the lot.

He said: "That's definitely the best double I've scored. I've not had many doubles in my career but that has to rank up there as my best one.

"It's good to score nice goals but its more important to get the win."

Templeton's previous best goal tally for a season was back in 2005-06 at Stenhousemuir when he netted eight times and he has already crashed through that barrier this term.

He added: "I was looking to score more goals this season and I've got 11 at Rangers now and 13 all together. It's the most I've scored in a season and I'm delighted."

Despite earning the plaudits against Clyde, Templeton admits he was not having the best of days until his 30-yard strike hit the back of the net a minute before the break.

He said: "In the first half I wasn't playing well at all. I kept giving the ball away too easily.

"I ended up trying to do the simple things and even that wasn't coming off for me. The goal gave me a boost and, in the second half, I managed to come out and do a lot better."
