Carlisle's third meeting of the season with north-west rivals Preston went the same way as the previous two, ending in a closely-contested draw.
Jeffrey Monakana's early strike for Preston was cancelled out before half-time by Lee Miller's close range effort, his eighth goal of the season.
Teenage Carlisle defender Brad Potts could have snatched it in added time with a bullet of a shot from 25 yards which Preston's imposing German goalkeeper Torsten Stuckmann managed to beat away.
Abbott's men have set a six-game undefeated run and the manager said: "We want to stay unbeaten until the end of the season if we can.
"We've improved in the second half of the season and played some terrific stuff although we weren't as good in this.
"There would have been a rapturous finish if Brad Potts's shot had gone in at the end. Their keeper said he didn't even see it!
"Earlier in the season we might have been beaten, but I was not worried when we went behind as I thought we would be alright."
