Venus launched his reign in style with a 4-0 Championship victory over Doncaster last Friday night and, with Gibson having refused to rule him out as a long-term successor to Tony Mowbray, he is keen to stake his claim.
He told the club's official website: "I spoke to the chairman after Friday and he said 'well done'. He was really pleased, as well all were.
"I have to understand the situation I'm in - I'm not in a comfortable position, am I? I'm a bit on the edge of a cliff, two results away from being out of work.
"But I understand the situation and I'm enjoying it. I look forward to every day. Hopefully I can produce what the chairman thinks I can.
"The more we win, the more it gives the chairman a harder decision. That's all I'm trying to do. I'll work for as long as the chairman wants me to. I'm going to try to enjoy myself and see how it goes."
