Ward's hamstring injury is being continually monitored and the next step of his recovery may see him involved against Albion at the club's Moor Farm training ground on Tuesday afternoon.
The 26-year-old was sidelined for three months after tearing his hamstring in the 1-0 victory over east midlands rivals Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on September 30.
His comeback as a substitute in the recent draw at Charlton lasted just 16 minutes before his hamstring tightened and he missed the victories against Middlesbrough and Tranmere.
"We hope Jamie might play some part on Tuesday," said Rams boss Nigel Clough, who is hoping midfielder Craig Bryson will recover from a knee injury in time for the trip to Brighton at the weekend.
"He might have half an hour, we will see. If he doesn't play, he will step up his training."
