Football - Ward: A point gained

Bristol Rovers manager John Ward praised his side for their spirit after overcoming the shock of conceding a second minute goal to earn a point at in form Morecambe.

Jack Redshaw gave the home side the lead and Rovers survived a first-half onslaught before Eliot Richards secured a 1-1 draw shortly after the interval.

Ward said: "It was a good, hard earned point. We had the worst possible start against a team who were in form and beat the league leaders last week so anything we got from here was a good result and every point is important for us at the moment .

"At half-time I said we had played well despite being a goal down and I just told the lads to be a bit more confident about themselves and attack their back four.

"We did that and got an early goal to give us a lift and built on that with a much better display in the second half.

"It was one of those draws that could have gone either way and both sides had chances to win it but I have to be happy with the spirit we showed. We are a young team but we are learning all the time and it was a good performance."
