A statement from FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer read:
"After the race DRS activation data from car #3 was analysed. It was found that the driver has activated the adjustable bodywork in three occasions when he was more than one second behind another car.
"As this is not in conformity with article 27.5b of the 2013 Formula 1 sporting regulations I am referring this matter to the stewards for their consideration."
It should only be technically possible to trigger the DRS when a car is within one second of a rival at the track's activation point.
There is no precedent for what penalty would be awarded if the stewards judged that the rules had been broken.
Ferrari and Alonso were not penalised for a similarly irregular DRS application during the 2011 Chinese GP because on that occasion an FIA electronic fault was blamed.
