The news has left Perez in a difficult position, even though McLaren revealed it is trying to help him secure a drive elsewhere.
Perez admitted, however, that he is not interested in just taking any drive.
"Yes, it's true they are helping me, but it's also true that right now it's very hard to find a seat that motivates me to stay in Formula 1," said Perez.
When asked if he would consider a seat at a team like Caterham or Marussia, he said: "I don't know, but I don't want to consider it because I have a lot to offer and going to a team like that would basically make my career stall.
"I would have to find another option."
The McLaren driver said he is not fixated with staying in Formula 1 at any cost, but would consider racing elsewhere if he cannot find a competitive car for 2014.
"Right now I haven't considered [racing in another series], but if I have to get to that point, I'll consider it and I want to make a decision in the new few days."
