DAMS racer Kevin Magnussen led from the lights after securing pole during the qualifying session whilst Stoffel Vandoome made the most of da Costa's slow start to move into second place early on. Arthur Pic continuously pushed da Costa throughout the race but positions remained unchanged.
Matters changed on lap 11, however, as Vandoome took to the pits followed by Magnussen one lap later. The Dane had hoped to maintain his narrow lead but was usurped by da Costa, who was able to stay out until lap 13 – emerging from the pit lane in time to snatch the lead.
Da Costa kept his cool and pulled away in the final laps to secure his first victory since Monza, five months ago.
