The 30-year-old Soumillon will be picking up the award for the fourth time, having ridden more winners than anyone last season.

Though still some way short of Yves Saint-Martin’s record of 15 French champion jockey titles, the Belgian is closing in fast on Cash Asmussen, who has five to his name.

Organised by France Galop, in association with the French Jockeys’ Association and the PMU, the awards ceremony will be held at L’Espace Pierre-Cardin, just off the Champs-Elysees, and will also honour national hunt racing, owners, breeders, trainers and apprentices.

The champion female jockey award will also be awarded to the rider amassing most wins last year on the Flat and in National Hunt combined.
