The 24-year-old knocked in breaks of 117, 70 and 80 to beat Trump 3-1, pocketing the £10,000 top prize and earning himself a place in snooker's Premier League in the summer.

"I'm very pleased to have won this. It's always good to win but chances to qualify for the Premier League were running out with just Beijing and Sheffield to go," said Ding.

"It's great match practice and my form over the four days this week was good."

Ding had beaten 3-1 Barry Hawkins in the semi-finals, while 2011 World Championship finalist Trump had whitewashed Mark Allen 3-0.

The winner will now head back to his homeland for the China Open in Beijing this week - but he is unlikely to be able to take advantage there of the secret weapon that helped him win in Essex: a full English breakfast.

Ding had arrived early at Crondon Park throughout the tournament in order to get a morning fry up, which he claimed helped him through the mentally taxing tournament.

"It's the perfect start to the day, especially in a demanding tournament like this where you are playing off and on from morning until mid-evening," he said.
