Attacking midfielder Jarolim, 33, has joined the French side on a season-long basis after eight years at Hamburg.
The former Slavia Prague midfielder has also played for Bayern Munich and Nuremberg, joining HSV in 2003.
Jarolim has played 29 matches for the Czechs, scoring one goal. He had taken over Van der Vaart’s captaincy when he joined Real Madrid four years ago but has since become a fringe player.
The Bundesliga club have been trying to re-sign Van der Vaart but funds have been an issue.
