HOT FOOTBALL TRANSFER GOSSIP: Chelsea 'favourites to sign Rooney'

Not content with three strikers struggling for form in front of goal, Chelsea want to add a fourth to turn their ailing season around  - and Wayne Rooney is the man they want, at least according to Metro. Despite Rooney scoring just two Premier League goals so far this season, the Blues are now the favourites to secure the England captain's signature in January. To be fair to Chelsea, Rooney's two goals is more than current forwards Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao have scored in the league combined this season. Everton, PSG, Arsenal and Spurs are also all been linked with Rooney.

As reported yesterday, Chelsea have been linked with 'a mad' £70 million raid on Cristiano Ronaldo. And they could be in luck with the Mirror reporting Real Madrid are ready to cut their losses on Ronaldo and striker Karim Benzema to fund a summer spending spree on the Blues' Eden Hazard, Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski and Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, who has a £30 million release clause.

Whether Ronaldo wants a move to a relegation-threatened side like Chelsea could be an issue for Roman Abramovich, with the Portuguese superstar being linked with a summer move away to all and sundry. Manchester City and Liverpool are waiting their turn to be linked him and his ego. Maybe Chelsea could sweeten the deal and swap Real Hazard for Ronaldo?

Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News are reporting Samir Nasri's time at Manchester City looks to be coming to an end and Bild are reporting Newcastle are looking to plug their porous defence with Werder Bremen's 6'7" 23-year-old Danish centre back Jannik Vestergaard for a cool £15 million.

The Boss of Goss Kevin Darling is on holiday and will be back next week.
