HOT FOOTBALL TRANSFER GOSSIP: Kroos, Cavani, Lavezzi, Gotze, Dragovic

Transfer rumours are always better when they involve a player from either Real Madrid or Barcelona, which is why we will start today’s round-up with the news that Chelsea are set to swoop for Real’s German midfielder Toni Kroos.

The Star reports that the former Bayern Munich man is unhappy at his lack of playing time at the Bernabeu, although it’s not clear whether he’s unhappy enough to sign for England’s 14th best team. Not that this would be an issue, because England’s 6th and 9th best teams - Manchester United and Liverpool - are also reportedly willing to stump up around £40m for Kroos. The bigger question is whether there are any players at Real Madrid and Barcelona that Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool don’t want to buy. We’ll let you know if we find one.

Similarly, there aren’t many English teams that haven’t been linked with Edinson Cavani at some point, so there will be various managers interested to read that Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc has said the Uruguayan is up for sale due to some issues with his “behaviour”. Specifically, these issues stem from Cavani being fed up with playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Mail suggests that Liverpool and Man Utd would consider letting Cavani play first fiddle.

Cavani’s team-mate Ezequiel Lavezzi has also appeared in his fair share of Premier League transfer gossip, without ever moving to the Premier League, and the latest dollop appears in the Mirror, which claims that Chelsea have joined Inter and Barcelona in pursuit of the Argentine, who is out of contract in the summer.

Meanwhile, the Express has got very excited by some seemingly innocuous words uttered by Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer about Mario Gotze.

Sammer said: “We will have to sit down at some point in the coming months and discuss Mario’s situation. That is only logical. He has put a few things up for discussion and we will clarify everything in the second half of the season. A lot of things will have been resolved by then.”

Anyway, according the Express this means that Gotze will be signing for Liverpool.

The Express also reports that Man Utd will sign Dynamo Kiev defender Aleksandar Dragovic “in the next few hours” for £16m (in a story published several hours ago), while the Sun claims that Louis van Gaal is also leading the race to capture £12m-rated Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani.

The latest twist in the Saido Berahino saga is that Tottenham are unwilling to meet West Brom’s £23m valuation of the player (the Sun), so the Baggies striker will instead end up at Stoke (the Times).

Finally, the Guardian reports that Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman is “fed up of sitting in the stands” and wants to play more games in the second half of the season. Awkward.
