Eric Fehr also tallied and Michal Neuvirth turned aside 27 shots for the Capitals, who kept their two-point lead in the Southeast Division over the Winnipeg Jets.
Lars Eller scored twice and Carey Price made 24 saves as the Canadiens remained one point ahead of the idle Boston Bruins for the lead in the Northeast Division. Eller opened the scoring with 4:16 left in the first but Washington responded with three straight goals.

Ray Whitney snapped a tie 52 seconds into the third period with the first of his two goals as hosts Dallas posted their third straight victory but lost goaltender Kari Lehtonen.
Vernon Fiddler recorded two goals and an assist and Richard Bachman stopped all 22 shots he faced in relief for the Stars, who climbed within two points of Detroit for eighth place in the Western Conference.
Lehtonen, who made his 19th consecutive start, exited with 5:42 remaining in the first period with a lower-body injury.
The Kings remained one ahead of San Jose for fourth in the conference.

Blackhawks 1, Wild 0
Ray Emery turned aside all 20 shots he faced for his third shutout in five starts and Marian Hossa scored an unassisted goal in the second period as visiting Chicago strengthened their bid for the Presidents' Trophy.
With their third consecutive victory, the Blackhawks remained four points ahead of Pittsburgh.
Niklas Backstrom finished with 30 saves for the Wild, who fell into a tie with St. Louis for sixth in the Western Conference.

Brian Elliott made 15 saves en route to his second consecutive shutout and Alex Steen scored the lone goal as visiting St. Louis extended their winning streak to five games.
The Blues moved within one point of fifth-place San Jose in the Western Conference. Elliott, who spent most of last month as a healthy scratch, stopped 28 shots against the Red Wings on Sunday and has not allowed a goal in 124 minutes, 31 seconds.
The Predators remained five points out of a playoff spot.

Steven Stamkos scored the winning goal on the power play with 5:04 remaining as Tampa Bay handed visiting Ottawa their fifth consecutive loss.
Stamkos swept home a cross-ice pass from Vincent Lecavalier to snap a four-game goal drought and tie Washington's Alex Ovechkin for the league lead with 26.
The Lightning got 31 saves from Ben Bishop and moved within six points of eighth place in the Eastern Conference.
Captain Daniel Alfredsson and Guillaume Latendress recorded goals for Ottawa, who dropped into a tie with the New York Islanders for sixth in the Eastern Conference.

Beau Bennett and Evgeni Malkin scored 13 seconds apart midway through the third period to break a 3-3 tie and lift visiting Pittsburgh to their first Atlantic Division title in five years.
Pascal Dupuis had two assists and an empty-net goal and the Eastern Conference-leading Penguins won their 30th game.
Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 25 shots.
Defensemen Joe Corvo and Bobby Sanguinetti scored in the first period and Riley Nash added one in the third for the Hurricanes, who have lost six in a row overall.

Michael Grabner scored the go-ahead goal and Evgeni Nabokov made 26 saves as hosts New York maintained their spot in the top eight in the Eastern Conference while dealing a blow to Philadelphia's playoff chances.
John Tavares and Casey Cizikas scored 28 seconds apart in the final minutes of the third period for the Islanders, who moved into a tie for sixth with the Ottawa Senators.
Philadelphia are stuck at 37 points, five behind the eighth-place New York Rangers.

Sergei Bobrovsky turned aside all 30 shots he faced and Marian Gaborik collected a goal and an assist as hosts Columbus moved within two points of idle Detroit for eighth place in the Western Conference.
Matt Calvert, Ryan Johansen and defenseman James Wisniewski also scored and veteran Vinny Prospal had an assist in his 1,100th NHL game.
Antti Niemi yielded four goals on 26 shots before being replaced by Thomas Greiss (four saves) for the Sharks. The fifth-place Sharks remain one point ahead of Minnesota.

Captain Andrew Ladd scored to snap a 13-game goal drought and added an assist as host Winnipeg pulled even in points with the eighth-place New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference.
Kyle Wellwood also scored and Aaron Gagnon notched his first career goal to back 29 saves from Ondrej Pavelec.
Winnipeg, who have played two more games than New York, remained two points behind Southeast Division-leading Washington.
