In a previously announced outdoor game, the Detroit Red Wings will play the Toronto Maple Leafs on January 1, 2014, in Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich. Several other yet-to-be-announced outdoor games are planned for next season.

Center Sidney Crosby will not play Wednesday night in Game 1 of the Pittsburgh Penguins' first-round Stanley Cup play-off series against the New York Islanders in Pittsburgh.
Penguins center Crosby, who is recovering from multiple jaw fractures and several lost teeth from from a vicious hit on March 30 on a hit in a game against the Islanders, has not been cleared by a team doctor to return to the lineup. The Penguins opened the series Wednesday against the same Islanders.
Crosby returned to practice last week wearing a face shield.
He said there have been no setbacks in his recovery. The Penguins went 8-4-0 during the final month of the regular season without Crosby and finished as the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
Game 2 of the opening-round series with the Islanders is scheduled for Friday. Whether Crosby will be cleared for that game remains to be seen.
The Vancouver Canucks turned to veteran Roberto Luongo to start in goal on Wednesday night in the opener of their Stanley Cup play-off series against the San Jose Sharks.
Canucks goalie Cory Schneider remains sidelined with with an undisclosed injury. Joe Cannata, who was recalled from the American Hockey League, will be Luongo's backup.
Luongo, 34, posted a 9-6-3 record with a .907 save percentage during the regular season but was pelted between the pipes on Saturday night in a 7-2 loss to Edmonton, giving up five third-period goals in less than four minutes.
