Not only was the some-time circuit racer competing in the all-action IRC for the first time, he was also taking part on his first rally outside of his homeland and in a car he had never used in competition before.
Driving a Renault Clio R3 after securing sponsorship from an Austrian sausage company, Danzinger finished 15th overall and sixth in the IRC 2WD Cup.
He said: “I was very pleased with my times on the first day. The times were not so good on the second day but the set-up wasn’t perfect. But I am happy with my performance.”
Austria’s Jännerrallye will host the opening round of next year’s FIA European Rally Championship.
