One year after he watched the five-way IRC title battle unfold on the island live on Eurosport, Wiegand will now be involved in the rally.
Rising star Wiegand was plucked from relative obscurity to head SKODA Auto Deutschland’s bid for IRC success this season, but admits he never imagined that he would be competing in Cyprus 12 months ago.
“For sure this is something I never expected but I can’t wait,” said Wiegand. “I remember the footage was really nice and some drivers were completely crazy, going really fast.
“Since last year it’s been a dream to participate in such a big rally, now it’s coming true so it’s a great feeling.”
