The Duchess of Cambridge has just arrived at The National Portrait Gallery and - GASP - she's got a new frock on! In her favourite colour! Yep, this vibrant blue number comes courtesy of Stella McCartney and Kate has teamed it with a statement silver necklace and a pair of classic black kitten heels. Yes, folks, the nude LK Bennetts are OFF.

The crepe dress, from the Brit designer's pre-fall collection, is available at Selfridges.com (go, copy-Kates, go!). It costs a reasonable £515 and is described on the website as a simple shift that 'embodies easy luxury with it's minimalist silhouette and eye-catching bold hue.' Indeed. It certainly is a treat to see the Duchess going so bright and giving the world a flash of her slender pins, no?
But perhaps today's outfit choice is a subtle tribute to the 2012 Olympics, which is due to kick off in just ten days. Stella McCartney has designed the Olympic kit, after all, and that azure hue is totes Team GB. What's more, today's gallery reception sees Kate opening an exhibition of 2012 athletes. It is the first of many a royal Olympic duty for the Duchess, who will be joined by Prince William and Prince Harry as they visit training camps over the coming month and, of course, will be cheering on their cousin Zara Phillips in the equestrian events in Greenwich Park.
