The Austrian underwent surgery following the accident during a motocross race but took part in training on the glacier in Soelden.
While his team-mates took part in giant slalom and slalom training, Kroell - who became the first Austrian downhill champion since Michael Walchhofer in 2009 - trained alone.
"The anticipation was great and I was not disappointed today," he said.
"If you go so long without skiing, you do not know what lies ahead after such an injury. But the first moves were good, the feeling was perfect and there are no problems with the foot.
"I am still not 100% pain free. I can deal with it but I know I'm not at full power yet. But I still have the whole month of October and my motivation is definitely very high."
