Los Pericos moved up to 39 points on Sunday evening with a 2-0 win at Osasuna, leaving them 13 clear of the drop zone.
“It is not yet done. Of course it is a good position to be 13 points clear,” reflected Aguirre.
“With eight games to go, though, mathematically we are still not safe.
“Obviously this is an important step - but the league continues. We have four games at home and four away.
“The team were hardworking and tidy, in a tight match. We had a dose of fortune, because we could have gone into the break behind, but from there we took our chances."
Aguirre would not be drawn on his future, saying: “My contract? I will wait it out. Let us dedicate ourselves to our job.”
