The striker, who netted four times in the Champions League semi-final first leg this season against Real Madrid, is rumoured to be the subject of market advances from both Bayern Munich and Los Merengues.
However, former Juventus and Roma attacker Boniek says that he would equally fit into Barcelona’s structure.
“Robert Lewandowski is a player for Barcelona, he has plenty of quality and character to play alongside those monsters such as Messi, Xavi and Iniesta,” enthused the current chairman of the Polish Football Association.
“Besides being able to score goals, he has the nose of a goalscorer, I assure you.
“When Lewandowski was at Lech Poznan, I called my friends at Roma and told them to catch the first plane to Poland, to sign Robert, who then would have sold for just €1.5m, no problem.
“They just ignored me.”
Former Barcelona midfielder Jose Mari Bakero has previously revealed that when Coach at Lech Poznan he too recommended Lewandowski to Barcelona, before Dortmund came in for a €4m move.
“I do not understand why all of Europe needs to see him score four goals against Real Madrid to realise that he is a great player,” continued Boniek.
“Leaving aside all that he has shown for Poland, was he not seen playing at Lech Poznan or Borussia Dortmund?
“Most important to Lewandowski is his head, his own belief in his potential. It is not easy to endure all that he did at the Bernabeu against Sergio Ramos and the other Real Madrid players.
“That showed his character, he wanted to get to the final, he would not react to their provocations.”
Boniek also reflected that Real Madrid passed up the opportunity to sign another of Dortmund’s Polish players, full-back Lukasz Piszczek.
“They erred gravely by not offering more to sign him, they would now have a full-back as good as Dani Alves.
“Barca have a candidate there to replace Dani, if what I read about him going to Monaco or PSG in France is true.”
