Liga - Zaragoza edge out Sevilla

Real Zaragoza and Sevilla were evenly matched for most of the contest at La Romareda, but in the end it was Real Zaragoza who came away with a 2-1 victory.

Gary Medel ensured the margin of victory for Los Rojiblancos with a goal in the 70th minute.

Defender Cristian Sapunaru was one of the key performers for Los Maños, with a classy display at the back. He scored one goal and also made three clearances.

Sapunaru scored on a header for Real Zaragoza in the 45th minute.

En route to the win, Los Blanquillos had the ball for 39.9% of the match. The winners had 11 shots, including six on target. Francisco Montañés had three shots for Real Zaragoza, more than any of his team-mates. Roberto stopped five shots. Franco Zuculini went off due to injury in the 71st minute and was replaced by Romaric.

With a ball control percentage of 60.1%, Sevilla played an effective brand of possession football despite the loss. Unfortunately, the possession advantage did not translate into a winning result. They also completed 371 passes and had 25 crosses in the loss. Babá made the biggest impact of any substitute after coming on for Manu del Moral in the 65th minute, as he took two shots. Cicinho's 16 passes to Medel were the most of any Sevilla teammates during the match.

Los Rojiblancos's inability to take the lead in the first half, even while controlling 60.1% of the possession, was an early indication of the eventual result. Los Maños also enjoyed a 7-4 advantage in shots during the first half.

Real Zaragoza are in 14th place with a record of three wins, five losses and zero draws. Sevilla now sit in fifth in the table with a record of four wins, two losses and two draws.
