Olympic Games - London Olympic Stadium to reopen as music venue

The Olympic Stadium's long-term future might still be uncertain but it appears set to reopen next summer to host a string of pop concerts, including a London 2012 anniversary event.

The Stratford venue not only impressed the general public last summer but also music promoters courtesy of its performances during the Olympic and Paralympic opening and closing ceremonies.

Acts such as Arctic Monkeys, The Who, Coldplay, Rihanna and Jay-Z performed in the Olympic Stadium with promoters due to stage shows in July, marking the first anniversary of the Games.

The plan is for events traditionally held at Hyde Park, where complaints about noise are rife and the number of gigs this summer have been cut, to head east to Stratford.

And Dennis Hone, chief executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation, said: "The exciting thing for us is that we have the opportunity to put on some major events in the Park, some music events and festivals and an anniversary weekend on 27 and 28 July."
